The Many Faces of Robert

My name is Robert and on my free time I like to dress up in costume. I dress in my costumes and go to events and conventions. Dressing up at events is called costume playing or more commonly known as Cosplaying.

I have been dressing up in costumes ever since I was a little boy. I dressed up for more than just Halloween. I would dress up and go play outside. Pretending to be people I had read about or saw on TV. As I grew up I added new and expanded on my collection of costumes. Over time I have grown out of many of my costumes and I have been slowly replenishing them. I designed all my costumes, however I did not make all my costumes. I am still learning to put them together and so far I have learned how to sew both fabric and leather, however working with furs and leather is very difficult for me to do and takes a lot of time. I have also learned how to work rings into jewelry and armor which take an exorbitant amount of time but is well worth the time that is put in to it. For the work I can’t do myself or lack the time to complete I commission experts to bring my designs to fruition. With custom pieces there is always a nice price tag on them with the biggest ticket item costing me $1300 for a custom leather coat. The huge price tag is well worth it and with the pieces I make myself they bring me lots of publicity when I wear them to the events.

I have put together thirteen costumes which include; Rob Stark King in the North from the Song of Ice and Fire book series, Indiana Jones, Medieval Crusader, Samurai, Green Pirate Captain, Red Pirate Captain, general Pirate, Man-at-Arms, Harry Dresden, Neal Caffrey from White Collar TV show, US Army Ranger, Musketeer, and Sir Gwaine from the TV show Merlin. I will continue to add to my costumes so they will never truly be finished. I have also have a new costume I have started which will be my Ranger from the north. I enjoy making all of these costumes and I hope that as the years go by I will continue to make new and amazing costumes.

From my first costume to my next one, I have always had a story to go with each costume. I also try to get into the mind set of my personas, to be that particular character. On occasion I will lose myself in a character gaining an accent and quirks of that particular person.

With all my costumes it’s like having many different faces, each with their own personality. From the beginning up to now I have had so many costumes that it is just too hard to keep track of. With half of my closet being costumes I still feel that I can keep going making new and incredible costumes. Hopefully someday soon my fame will travel all over and I will get invited to be a guest star at the conventions as a famous Cosplayer. Someday, someday soon.
